Can businesses actually be a part of social changemaking?

That’s what we asked social impact strategist Erika Soto-Lamb and supplier diversity champion Ken Smith in Episode 4 of the Issue Space podcast: ✨ The Change Department: Advancing Impact At Brands and Businesses. ✨ 

We’ve all seen what it looks like when business leans in to move attention and resources where they need to go. And entire enterprises (shout out to B corps!) stand on the premise that business can be a force for good.

But those case studies don’t tell us what it feels like to be the champion of change work in a business day-to-day…especially in a business that wasn’t founded on a social mission. Do we buy what they’re selling?

Do the people who lead impact in businesses feel their work is inspiring, or impossible? Is money a good source for brainstorming acts of impact, or a dead end? What’s a pet peeve a business-impact pro hates to see coming?

Erika and Ken offer insights from two very different experiences activating business for social change. Their voices are just two of many doing this work, but their answers to our burning questions might surprise you.
